Ms. Beverly the Shafer Sensation
Beverly Sawyer is a self-described people person.
To those who encounter her every day, that is an understatement.
Known as “Ms. Beverly” to students, she can be seen in her element, swiping cards at Shafer Dining Court, and echoing greetings of “Hey baby!” and “I want you to have a great day!”
“Ms. Beverly is a breath of fresh air, she is an amazing woman,” said Virginia Commonwealth University sophomore Stephany Guachamin. “Even when you’re having the worse day of your life, just by hearing her voice and seeing her smile, she brightens up your day. She’s just an amazing woman. I love Shafer. When I think of Shafer, I think of Ms. Beverly.”
“She brings an excitement every single day, always positive energy,” said VCU freshman Michael Spring. “I’ve never seen her frown, always has a smile. So it’s always nice to see that.”
“Ms. Beverly brings enthusiasm; she always got a smiling face for the students and things like that,” said VCU senior Anthony Spain. “And she’s real approachable. She’s probably one of the greatest employees that they have working here in terms of she’s friendly and she genuinely seems to care.”
And it’s not only students taking notice, Sawyer’s supervisor agrees. James Butler, the location manager at Shafer Dining Court, said it’s her relationship with the students that stands out.
